A big thanks to all our recent donors!
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
The I Am Them Foundation Inc., (IATF) works tirelessly to help youth by filling in the gaps of need in our communities. In keeping with the golden rule, we know that statistics desensitize us to the truth of individual pain and suffering. Each person in need could be any one of us. With that in mind our mission is as follows:
Taking into consideration how we’d like to be treated, we aim to meet and exceed the needs of fellow humans in times of distress and crisis.
- To bridge the gap between foster care and independence in a safe, nurturing and educational environment
- career trainings and readiness workshops
- Provide nutritious foods to low income areas
- Provide after school programs
- Promote and engage intergenerational conversations.
- Senior outings, classes and activities
Often the difference in people's lives boil down to one or two crucial moments in time where just support and a nurturing environment could have made all the difference. At IAT, we find ways to meet youth at those crucial points and give them options in the form of resources and support for a brighter and better outcome.
Clients that qualify for our program will be helped with transitional housing in the form of room and board. They will be assisted in securing the proper education or training to support themselves holistically.
The goal of the FH2T project is to help level the economic and cultural playing field by mentoring pre-teens and teens as they navigate the rough terrain of adolescence. We help prepare them for college and life afterwards by introducing them to experiences and opportunities that are not prevalent in their local surroundings.
Whether it's running a winter coat and hat drive or hosting and giving out book bags full of school supplies, we aim to support youth in our communities as they further their education.
Last year in just two weeks, with the help of so many gracious souls, we were able to donate 58 book bags to kids in need! The children ranged in age from 5 to 17 and were identified as meeting our criteria through school officials, teachers and local social services organizations.
Joshua M., Newport News, VA-age 7
"I was happy to get my book bag because I thought I wasn't going to get another one and it is my favorite color blue."
Nakisha B., Hampton, VA - age 13
"Thank you because I need everything in there."
Bernice C., New York City (parent)
"...he loves them, I love them. I love that book bag oh my God we love that book bag. Thank you thank you so so much. That is perfect so perfect we love it thank you."
This year we’re raising money to give at least 100 book bags filled with age appropriate school supplies to disadvantaged children. We want them excited and fully equipped with the tools necessary for a successful new school year.
To meet this challenge, we’ve set up this campaign with a goal of $2,000. Each book bag filled with supplies cost $20. Last year we raised enough to fill and hand out 58 book bags in only two weeks! This year we are starting earlier and raising the bar to help even more.
Where do my donations go?
100% of all donations to the book bag drive goes to the purchase of book bags and age specific schools supplies that students need. General donations go to our programs and community initiatives.
What if I want to sponsor 2 kids?
The cost of a book bag and supplies is $20. That's $40 for 2, $60 for 3, etc...
How can I volunteer?
